Aasie Mai’s life has been defined by hardship and loss. Unable to walk, she crawls around on a sack, managing to get by with what little she has.

“I cannot walk,” she says, her voice soft but steady. “I crawl around on a sack.”

Her husband passed away long ago, and without children, she has no family to rely on. She tells of a fever she caught when she was young, but because they couldn't afford treatment, she suffered in silence. That illness has left her with permanent physical limitations, and now, the simplest tasks are a daily struggle.

“I crawl onto a sack to urinate,” she explains, her words filled with a quiet dignity despite the severity of her situation. “I wear whatever clothes I receive from God. I eat whatever I receive from the villages.”

Aasie Mai’s needs go far beyond basic survival. She has no money for food, no resources for medicine, and her only source of support comes from a brother who, like her, struggles to make ends meet. He has five children of his own to care for, and though he does what he can, it is never enough to meet Aasie Mai’s needs.

“My poor brother is struggling,” she says with a sense of helplessness. “He earns for his five children.”
