In a small rented house in Farooq Pura, Multan, lives Amna Bibi—a woman whose strength, resilience, and sacrifices shape the lives of her six children. It’s easy to look at Amna and see only her smile, but behind it lies a world of hardship and untold struggles.
"People say I’m always smiling, but they don’t see the struggles hidden behind it," Amna begins, her voice filled with quiet determination. "I have to be strong—for my children, for my family."
Amna’s husband, Muhammad Naeem, works selling Sohan Halwa on trains, earning a modest 3,000 rupees (£8) a week. But he is often away, only returning for two or three days each month. "When he’s home, he’s not earning—and that means there’s no food on the table." This leaves Amna to shoulder the heavy responsibility of feeding her children, paying for their education, and covering medical costs for her sick daughter.
Amna’s daughter, struggling with severe tuberculosis, has been unable to eat solid food for the past three years. The illness is now affecting her stomach, adding an extra burden to an already difficult situation.
“Every month, I face impossible choices,” Amna explains. “Do I feed my family? Do I pay for my daughter’s medication? Or do I cover the school fees? Sometimes, I wonder how we’ll make it through the next day.”
Amna is hard of hearing, but without the means to afford a doctor or a hearing aid, she struggles to find work. “Wherever I try to work, they let me go because I can’t hear well,” she says. “So, I do what I can—I smile, I keep going. But when I see my children’s hunger, it feels like my heart is breaking.”
The Weight of Amna’s Plea
For Amna, hope is a constant companion, even when the weight of her reality threatens to overwhelm her. Her needs are simple, yet essential. She prays every day to Allah for someone kind-hearted to help lift the burdens she carries for her family.
“I need 80,000 rupees (£200) for a hearing aid,” she shares. “And I need at least 50,000-60,000 rupees (£130-£160) each month for food, medication, and rent.” These amounts are more than just numbers to Amna—they represent the difference between survival and despair.
How Zakat Can Make a Difference
Amna’s story is a reminder of the power of compassion and the profound impact that Zakat can have. Zakat is not just an act of charity; it is a means of restoring dignity and hope to those in desperate need. By contributing, you can help Amna secure the resources she needs to care for her children, ensure they have food, and provide her with the treatment she desperately requires to regain her independence.
Amna’s struggles are not hers alone. They are a reflection of the countless families who fight every day to survive. Your Zakat can bring hope into her home, helping her provide for her children and lift the weight of her challenges.
